The Underrated New Hampshire Lake That’s Perfect For A Summer Day

Sure, we all love Lake Winnipesaukee - but there's no denying the fact that it's absolutely overrun in the summer. If you want a lake escape that's a little less of a tourist magnet, head just a bit west. If you haven't visited this lake yet, you'll want to add it to your summer bucket list!

Separated from Winnipesaukee by I-93, Newfound Lake has shores in the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, and Hebron.

2.5 miles wide and 6 miles long, Newfound Lake reaches 183 feet at its deepest point.

It's a glacial lake fed by 8 springs, and many argue that it has the purest, clearest water of any lake in the Granite State.

There are great homes and cabins for rent around the lake, many with docks and swimming areas.

If you're just coming for the day and want to swim, your best bet is to head to Wellington State Park in Bristol, which has the largest freshwater beach in New Hampshire.

Bring a kayak, or rent one at Wellington State Park, so you can explore the lake up close and personal.

The clear, quiet water will immediately relax you and make you grateful you're not fighting through throngs at Weirs Beach.

There are plenty of walking trails around the lake as well. Head to the Newfound Audobon Center in Hebron for some excellent birdwatching and another place to rent canoes and paddleboards.

Just make sure you don't leave before you watch a magnificent Newfound Lake sunset.
