Take This Ghost Town Hike In New Hampshire If You Are Brave Enough
Monson, New Hampshire's oldest inland settlement, offers a spooky hiking experience with its ghost town atmosphere and historical ruins.
Walking around the New Hampshire woods this time of year can be spooky - the bare branches of the trees seem dead and the cool New Hampshire wind whispers hauntings. One haunted hike in New Hampshire is particularly scary. Walking around Monson, New Hampshire's oldest inland settlement that was abandoned just 40 years after it was founded, is only for the brave:
Located just north-west of Nashua, Monson was New Hampshire's first inland colony, settled in the 1730s.
However, by the 1770s all the inhabitants were gone, although no one quite knows why.
Now, it is well accepted that Monson is a ghost town.
Today, the area is preserved by The Forest Society. There is a museum built in a reconstructed house, where you can learn about the history of the abandoned town.
Monson has plenty of trails, where you can walk along and enjoy the archeological ruins - and the spooky atmosphere.
