It’s time for another exploration in the wilds of New Hampshire! Of course, by “wilds” we mean the totally accessible fairytale forests that are nearby no matter where we are in the state. If you’ve been reading a long time, you’ll know just how much we love spending time outdoors, especially when we have access to some truly unique areas. This cave, located along the beautiful Devil's Den Trail in New Durham, offers a fun attraction that’s a bit different than what you’ll find on a lot of other trails in the state. This is some of the best hiking in New Hampshire. Let’s take a look at one of our favorite caves in New Hampshire.
To explore the Devil's Den Trail, head on over to New Durham, New Hampshire.
The 5.6-mile Devil's Den Trail is considered moderately difficult, mainly due to the 675-foot elevation gain. But that doesn't mean this trail isn't absolutely worth the effort.
The trail itself is primarily used by ATVs, but there's plenty of room for hiking as well.
And the views along the way are absolutely gorgeous. This area is full of boulders and rocks, so it might be hard to pinpoint exactly which one houses the Devil's Den cave. It's best to follow the map through AllTrails that you'll find at the end of this article, which will direct you to a group of boulders known as "the cliffs."
The entrance to the Devil's Den cave is about a big as a crawlspace so you may need to poke around a bit to find it. A good indication will be other hikers in the area.
When you do find it you'll love exploring inside. While it's not huge, there's enough room to shimmy around allowing you to feel like a true explorer.
Most areas have light shining through but plan on having a headlamp or other flashlight with you to make sure you can see.
The cave is at the end of the trail which means once you explore the inside you'll also get to take in the views of the surrounding area. This is beautiful at any time of year.
Once you've enjoyed your time, simply head back the same way you came. That's the beauty of an out-and-back trail!
