There are an endless number of ways to enjoy the outdoors in New Hampshire. Whether it's winter, spring, summer or fall there are tons of places to explore. And you don't need to be an avid outdoor-lover to do it! There's one park in New Hampshire that offers everything and we're not the only ones who think so. The Discoverer just named Franconia Notch State Park the best in the Granite State and here are just a few of the reasons we agree.
1. The park offers access to Flume Gorge.
One of the most notable natural attractions in the state is this network of 80-foot high rock walls and boardwalk trails. You'll feel like you're in a magical land as you navigate your way around this incredible landscape.
2. There are even non-nature activities in the park.
History and poetry lovers will appreciate a visit to The Frost Place, the former homestead of Robert Frost. It acts a bit like a museum offering visitors that chance to imagine what it might have been like to live and write poetry in the mountains.
3. Access to Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway for incredible views.
In operation since 1938, this was the first passenger tramway in North America. The ride to the top is about 8 minutes and you'll have the most incredible views from the top of the 4,080-foot summit.
4. Echo Lake is a beauty.
Throughout the year, Echo Lake is a beautiful sight. In the summer it's great for swimming and boating, but it's one of the most tranquil places in the park year-round.
5. It offers some great ways to remember the past.
The Old Man In The Mountain might be no more, but profile plaza will allow you to think back on what used to be. Enjoy the fresh air while sitting on a bench for a view of where the entire face used to be.
6. The Basin offers crystal clear water.
Formed at least 25,000 years ago by glacial activity, this swimming home is a unique feature located in the Pemigewasset River. You can check it out by visiting the park and it's worth it!
7. The park is home to Artist Bluff Trail.
One of the best is trails in the state, this beauty leads to a magnificent view. The route itself is hearty, but every step is worth it.
8. Hiking, biking and walking!
There are so many different ways to appreciate this beauty of a state park that we're never surprised to see photos of another one. Not an avid hike? No problem! You can enjoy one of the bike paths which allow for views that are just as great, perhaps even better!
