Despite popular belief, Nevada is home to many stunning waterfalls. They just take a little effort to find them! It's the perfect time of year to go waterfall hunting, so grab your hiking boots and get ready for a little adventure. The hidden waterfall featured here is accessed by a relatively short but lovely hike through the Mount Charleston Wilderness. At the end of the trail, you'll be greeted by the sight of a very tall, very beautiful waterfall. There's no time like the present to check this waterfall off your list so be sure to see it soon.
Mount Charleston is home to many stunning hidden waterfalls. One of them, known simply as Big Falls, is a must for any nature lover. Best seen during spring before the arrival of summer, now is the perfect time to see it.
The waterfall is located within Kyle Canyon, right across from the popular Mary Jane Falls. Although not as well-known as Mary Jane, Big Falls is actually far more impressive. Located via a moderate four-mile out-and-back trail, the backcountry journey is so worth the opportunity to witness the falls.
The trail starts along the Mary Jane Falls Trail and runs up through Kyle Canyon before branching off. Full of towering ponderosa pines and mountain views, the trail is as scenic as can be. It represents the very best of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area.
While the trail to Mary Jane Falls is clearly marked, the portion that branches off to Big Falls isn't. It can be tricky to find the trail but when in doubt, just follow the creek bed. It's bound to take you all the way to the waterfall.
Located in a shady portion of the canyon, Big Falls is best seen after a recent rain or before the summer heat dries it up. However, if you time it just right, you'll be handsomely rewarded. The sight of the 85-foot waterfall is a real treat that's bound to leave you in awe.
Although the waterfall itself looks like a tiny stream from far away, you'll be more impressed the closer you get. Standing right underneath the falls is a pretty exhilarating experience! Take a breath and enjoy the scenery for awhile before heading back.
Its remote location and lack of a marked trail makes Big Falls a true hidden gem on Mount Charleston. Seeking it out is a rewarding experience that is bound to thrill any adventurer who loves uncovering our state's underrated spots. Give it a visit and see it for yourself soon!
