If You Only Visit One Nebraska Orchard This Year Make It This One

The soil and climate in eastern Nebraska are perfect for apple orchards, and there are plenty of them to visit every year. While most of us are familiar with the annual AppleJack Festival in Nebraska City, there's another orchard party you should definitely check out this year.

Super Bee Orchard is located in Fort Calhoun in Washington County, not far from Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.

The family-owned business is a terrific place to take the kids for a day out. Admission is free - you only pay for the treats you purchase to take home.

If you dislike how commercial and impersonal some of the other orchards have become, Super Bee is a welcome departure. It's not huge, which means that you'll find personalized service and a family-like atmosphere.

In addition to apples, Super Bee Orchard carries fresh peaches and raspberries. If you come at just the right time, you can pick your own apples!

Local bee pollen and honeycomb...

So many types and flavors of honey that you'll have trouble deciding on a favorite...

Jams, preserves, and fruit butters...

Nuts, popcorn, pickles, salsa, mustard, and even non-edible delights like home decor.

The orchard is a fun place to visit anytime during the on-season, but if you're looking for the perfect time to check it out, come for Apple Fest. In 2018, it's happening September 15th from 1:00-5:30.

The family-friendly event is packed full of awesome activities for kids of all ages, including a bounce house, face painting, apple games, and pony rides.

Special characters also show up each year to celebrate apple season. This year, you'll get to meet princesses, superheroes, Pikachu, and more. There will even be alpacas from the nearby Alpacas of the Heartland!

Refreshments will be available for purchase, too. If you can only try one, make it the homemade caramel apples. They're definitely one of the best treats at Super Bee.
