8 Spots in Nebraska That Will Drop Your Frozen Jaw This Winter

These photos from across the state showcase just how lovely the winter in Nebraska is when covered in wintry ice and snow.

Winter in Nebraska can be bitterly cold but also quite wonderful. Covered in a layer of snow, we may even have a chance to go sledding or sling snowballs at each other. If you love winter as much as I do, these pictures from previous years will put you in a frozen Nebraska state of mind.

1. The trees look so frigid just after an ice storm during a Nebraska winter.

2. The Missouri River turns into a beautiful but frigid landscape in the winter.

3. The photographer calls this "White Forest." What a spectacular sight during winter in NE!

4. Each individual blade of grass is covered in its own sheath of ice. I love the crunch it makes when you step on it.

5. The river in Ord is spectacularly frozen in this gorgeous winterscape.

6. Blizzards in late 2009/early 2010 covered the railroad tracks near David City with 6-foot to 12-foot drifts of snow. A rotary snow plow was sent to retrieve a snowed-in freight train. Plenty of cars also got stuck in the snow. But the landscape certainly looked like a wonderland in the aftermath of the storms.

7. There is something magical about nature's own ice sculptures. These are some of our favorite things to find during the wintertime in Nebraska.

8. This pond isn't all the way frozen yet, but you can see the freeze creeping in.
