Glacier National Park in Montana is full of magnificent views everywhere you look and the Many Glacier region on the east side of the park is no exception. For a truly spectacular sunset, be sure to plan an evening visit to Swiftcurrent Lake.
Swiftcurrent Lake is an often-photographed location in Glacier National Park, and for good reason. The soaring peaks of Grinnell Point, Mount Gould, and Mount Wilbur provide a dramatic backdrop to the crystal clear waters of the lake itself.
This lake is unique in the area and it sees a lot of recreational use with boat tours, canoeing, and kayaking. It also happens to be an excellent spot to enjoy the sunset – and the sunrises are gorgeous, too.
One of the best places to view the sunset over the lake is at Many Glacier Hotel, a historic mountain chalet right on the shore of Swiftcurrent Lake. The view from the hotel’s deck is absolutely stunning, and it’s the perfect home base for exploring the many trails nearby.
The hotel’s construction dates back to the early 1900s. It’s recognized as a National Historic Landmark along with its surrounding buildings.
Experience a different view altogether by renting a canoe or taking a scenic boat tour across the lake. You can also travel on foot on the Swiftcurrent Nature Trail or Grinnell Glacier Trail for trailside views.
As the sky darkens, the silhouettes of the mountains become even more dramatic and the light reflected in the water is breathtaking.
Nothing beats a good Montana sunset. Take a moment to breathe in the fresh air and watch as color floods the sky.
The view of the stars sparkling over the water on a clear night isn’t too bad, either.
