We Bet You Didn’t Know There Was A Miniature Grand Canyon In Montana

It can sometimes feel like everything in Montana is big. The wide-open spaces, the mountains, the personalities, and even the burgers. But, the state also offers fun in more reasonable sizes. If you're looking for a great way to enjoy the great outdoors, look no further than one of our favorite trails. It's short enough to do in an afternoon, simple enough to make it family-friendly, and it leads to the most spectacular mini Grand Canyon in Montana.

As one of the most beautiful hikes in the state, there's a lot to love about the Blodgett Canyon Overlook Trail.

This 2.8-mile out-and-back route near Hamilton leads hikers through the forest on a trail that has a 530-foot elevation gain. This makes it a good option for beginner hikers and children who enjoy the great outdoors.

You'll begin your trip on the Canyon Creek Trail. After about 100 feet, you'll continue on the Blodgett Canyon Overlook Trail.

This trail is a great example of the journey being just as great as the destination. There's tons to see along the way including flowers, trees, and wildlife. There are even some great spots to stop and sit, allowing you to take in the view along the way.

Getting to the top of the trail should take about an hour and a half. And when you get there, the scenery is incredible. You'll find expansive views of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness.

This is where you'll find the mini Grand Canyon in Montana! Blodgett Canyon is just one of many canyons sitting on the eastern portion of the Bitterroot Range.

About 12 miles below the canyon is the Bitterroot Valley, another incredibly scenic area to explore.
