We all know that Montana is a gem, but it's actually called "The Treasure State" because it's full of them. Our rich mineral reserves have been a major part of our economy in the past, and these days, you can still find gold, sapphires, and other stones all over the state. And if it's quartz crystals you're after, all you have to do is head to Crystal Park in Montana. Montana is home to several parks, and Crystal Park is a unique one that belongs on your bucket list.
Crystal Park is located in the Pioneer Mountains in southwest Montana, just outside of Dillon.
It's a unique recreation area that's open for day use only, and there's a small per-car fee to access it.
On any given day, you'll see plenty of park patrons searching for crystals.
Quartz crystals are scattered liberally through the park's 220 acres, and they're often easy to find.
Quartz crystals are composed of silicon and oxygen atoms that are typically found near river beds and beaches.
In this case, they're found in the decomposed granite of the park.
Digging for crystals is such a fun, family-friendly adventure.
Even your little ones will love it.
In addition to being beautiful, quartz crystals are believed to have some serious healing properties.
Quartz is said to be good for your well-being, unlocking your memory, boosting your energy, and even helping out your immune system. But even if you're not a believer, they're still fantastic to have around.
Aside from the gorgeous crystals, Crystal Park offers three picnic sites with tables and grills, restrooms, and a paved trail with benches and an overlook.
The area is designed to be universally accessible.
