There's a reason so many Montanans are hikers -- our diverse trails offer something for practically every taste. And in the case of the Trail of the Cedars in Glacier National Park, it's accessible to practically everyone as well. It's also one of the best hikes in Montana!
The Trail of the Cedars is a nice, short 1-mile loop with plenty of gorgeous natural scenery. I's one of the most beautiful hikes in Montana.
The trail begins (and ends) on the Going-To-The-Sun Road a few miles from the Lake McDonald Lodge.
Most people start across from the Avalanche Campground Ranger Station
Since the trail is so short, we highly suggest taking your time.
Take a close look and you'll see ferns and mosses growing along the forest floor, not to mention the hemlocks and cedars.
The trail also marks the beginning of the Avalanche Lake Trail, another popular Glacier hike.
This is one of just two wheelchair-accessible trails in the park, so it really is available for nearly everyone. So, if you're looking for "boardwalk trails near me," you can't go wrong with this one.
Since this hike is so easily accessible and beautiful, it definitely gets crowded in the summertime.
If you're planning to visit during peak times, go on a weekday morning if you can.

Sometimes it's the short and sweet hikes that leave the most lasting impressions. Check out these scenic trails, for example. And if you need guidance on any Montana hiking trails, download the AllTrails+ app. I find this app to be so helpful!
