Don't let the name fool you. Pinnacles Youth Park near Columbia welcomes the public to explore its tiny but beautiful 70 acres in Boone County.

However, it earned its moniker because the park is designed for the young people in Boone County. The youth, in fact, were deeded the property back in the 1960s.

While all are welcome to visit the park during the day, only youth groups, like the Scouts, are permitted to camp out.

Pinnacles Youth Park sits just 12 miles north of Columbia, so it's an easy and convenient stop if you're nearby.

The masterpiece of the park is, arguably, the unique rock formations that are perfect for exploring and for snapping photos.

Wear comfy hiking or walking shoes, especially if you want to explore the rock formations and to follow the .09-mile Pinnacles Youth Park Trail.

Bring along your swimsuit and a towel in the summer for a dip in the creek, which runs along the trail, and drink in gorgeous views of Silver Fork Creek Valley.

The park, which is maintained by the Boone County Pinnacles Youth Foundation, is breathtaking all year around. However, try to time one of your visits during the fall to admire the foliage.
