Tucked in the 6,400-acre Cuivre River State Park near Troy, Lincoln Lakeside Trail spans just over 3.5 miles and is considered between easy and moderate depending on your skill level.
You'll want to lace up a pair of sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and be prepared for mud if you're hiking after a recent rainfall.
The meandering trail passes fields of blossoming wildflowers during the warmer months and hugs the shoreline of Lake Lincoln.
You can pick up the trail at the beach or at the boat launch. Lincoln Lakeside Trail also features a set of stairs, so be prepared for the climb.
As you're hiking the dog-friendly trail, keep an eye out for local wildlife - ducks, turtles, and even eagles.
If you have time after your hike, explore more of Cuivre River State Park. During the summer, you can drop your towel on the sandy beach and slip into the cool water.
