Take This Amazing 2-Day Getaway In Mississippi If You Need A Break From Real Life
Tishomingo State Park offers a peaceful retreat with hiking trails, rustic cabins, and scenic views.
I don't know about you, but after several weeks of fighting crowds at shopping malls, restaurants and theaters, I'm ready for a nice break from real life. If you're looking for some quiet relaxation, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, consider spending a weekend at Tishomingo State Park!
Tishomingo State Park is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. This scenic park covers 1,530 acres and has a fascinating Native American history. Especially during winter months, it's a great place to get away.
Hiking is a popular activity here, and a great way to get out in nature. The Outcroppings Trail is a two-mile-long loop. It starts and ends at the CCC Swinging Bridge.
The Swinging Bridge is one of the coolest features at this state park. It was built as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps project in 1939.
The park also features some truly massive rock formations, unlike anything else you'll see in Mississippi. Watch for rock climbers - this is a popular spot for the sport.
You'll even see a few small waterfalls.
Stay overnight in one of the six rustic cabins in the park. Each rustic cabin is equipped with heating, kitchens (with basic cooking equipment) and cozy beds. Click here to see photos of each cabin and reserve one.
In the morning after breakfast, take another short hike along the Bear Creek Trail. The trail starts right behind the swimming pool.
The short 1.5-mile hike ends at the Pioneer Cabin.
Haynes Lake is a beautiful spot for quiet reflection. You may also fish in the lake with a permit.
Take some time to explore the rest of the park before you go home. Click here for a map of the entire park.
