The Scenic Mississippi Trail That Follows A Historic Waterway

There are tons of trails in the Magnolia State worth exploring, and the Hugh Jack Stubbs Recreational Trail is one of them. An easy-to-traverse route that merges history and beauty, it’s easily one of the best trails in Mississippi.

Opened in 2019, the Hugh Jack Stubbs Recreational Trail begins at the Delma Furniss Hospitality Station in Coahoma.

A paved, multi-use trail, it follows the course of a portion of the historic Yazoo Pass Waterway, which played a vital role in the Civil War.

Scenic sights line the entire 2.5-mile route (5 miles roundtrip), which features practically no elevation gain and is ADA-accessible.

In addition to spectacular scenery, the route boasts picnic tables, pavilions, restrooms, and a canoe/kayak launch.

There are also four Fit-Trail exercise stations, which are perfect for those looking to squeeze in even more activity during their stroll.

The trail comes to an end at Moon Lake Landing in Dundee. An amazing gem on its own, Moon Lake is a 2,300-acre oxbow lake.

There are three public boat launches at Moon Lake: McMillan Boat Launch, Moon Lake Landing, and Moon Lake Park. We recommend Moon Lake Park since it also includes an overlook.

Hugh Jack Stubbs Recreational Trail is open year-round. However, it’s important to note that there isn’t much natural shade, so sunscreen is a must.
