Opened back in March 2018, Town Spring Park is located in the heart of Olde Towne Clinton.

Far from your typical park, the purpose of Town Spring Park is to educate visitors on Clinton’s early days, particularly the role it played in supplying fresh water to countless people.

Several signs and plaques are scattered throughout the small park, providing information on the Clinton of yesteryear.

But the focal point of the park has got to be the natural spring, which is one of the original springs that supplied water to Clinton’s residents in the 1800s.

It wasn’t just area residents who relied on the spring’s water, though.

Because of Clinton’s abundance of fresh water, it was a popular stop for travelers passing through the area via the Natchez Trace and Jackson/Vicksburg Road.

At its peak of popularity in the early 1800s, two hotels and several taverns were built near the spring.

By 1906, the town built a well near the spring and established a water system. The well remained usable until 1951.

Today, the buildings that surrounded the water source are long gone; however, the spring is still flowing – and that’s no coincidence. The spring was restored during the park’s construction in 2018.

A pretty surreal experience, you can actually sample the same water as the weary travelers who passed through Clinton in the 1800s.

Town Spring Park is open daily, from dawn to dusk. For more information, call (601) 924-6082. You can also visit the City of Clinton website or Facebook page.

This isn’t the only park centered around a historic spring. Read about another here.
