The Most Remote State Park in Mississippi Is the Perfect Place to Escape

Hugh White State Park in Mississippi offers a remote escape with fishing, golf, nature trails, and camping options.

Of the 25 state parks in Mississippi, few can compare to Hugh White State Park. Often overshadowed by larger parks like Tishomingo, Paul B Johnson, and Buccaneer State Park, Hugh White State Park in Mississippi offers a chance to escape to a remote destination where you can kick back and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It’s one of my favorite state parks in Mississippi, and I hope you’ll enjoy it too!

Just driving into Hugh White State Park will make you feel like you’re a million miles away from everything. You’ll find it in Grenada, Mississippi, which has a population just north of 12,000. So while it may not be a small town, it’s easy to feel like a secluded escape when you come to the park. Nestled along Grenada Lake, this scenic state park attracts folks from all over, especially those interested in doing a little fishing or spending a day out on the water.

The lake is known for its prized winning catches, especially for crappie. Bass, bream, and catfish are also kept well-stocked. On land, the 18-hole golf course will certainly keep you busy for a few hours. Dogwoods Golf Course at Hugh White State Park is known to be a nature lover's course, and I'd have to agree. I'm not even a golfer, but this course is just too pretty to pass up! The Little Mountain Nature Trail is another great way to get your steps in and is just dreamy during the fall.

This short and sweet loop trail clocks in at about half a mile, and though its name is "Little Mountain Trail," there's less than 200 feet of elevation gain, so it's nothing super crazy. Of course, nothing beats sinking your toes in the sand and catching a sunset over the lake at one of the best state parks in Mississippi.

There is a beautiful little stretch of beach that's great during the warmer months, and plenty of picnic tables nearby. If you want to stay for the weekend, there are plenty of RV sites, cabins, and primitive campsites available for rent.

The state park is open daily, and the entrance fee is $2.00 per person; 5 years of age and under - free. Visit the Hugh White State Park website for more information, and start planning your next adventure today! If you do end up spending a few days at one of the most charming state parks in Mississippi, you may be interested in the scenic Grenada Lake Loop, one of the most scenic drives in the Magnolia State.
