Of the many amenities that fill J.P. Coleman State Park, Pickwick Lake has to be one of the best. The gorgeous 47,500-acre lake is perfect for all sorts of water activities and even features a 50’ waterfall; surprisingly enough, most people don’t know this paradise is hidden here in Mississippi.
Located in Iuka, J.P. Coleman State Park sits atop a rocky bluff overlooking the Tennessee River. Venture further into the park and you’ll find the gorgeous Pickwick Lake.
One of the best aspects of Pickwick Lake is Cooper Falls. The 50’ waterfall is among the tallest in the state and is a gorgeous sight to say the least.
All of J.P. Coleman’s campsites and rental cabins offer views of Pickwick Lake, which means extending your stay at this hidden paradise is a real possibility.
Out of all 25 state parks in Mississippi, few can compare to Hugh White State Park. Often overshadowed by larger parks like Tishomingo, Paul B Johnson, and Buccaneer State Park, Hugh White State Park in Mississippi offers a chance to escape to a remote destination where you can kick back and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It’s one of my favorite state parks in Mississippi, and I hope you’ll enjoy it too!

Just driving into Hugh White State Park will make you feel like you’re a million miles away from everything.
You’ll find it in Grenada, Mississippi, which has a population just north of 12,000. So while it may not be a small town, it’s easy to feel like a secluded escape when you come to the park.
Nestled along Grenada Lake, this scenic state park attracts folks from all over, especially those interested in doing a little fishing or spending a day out on the water.
This short and sweet loop trail clocks in at about half a mile, and though it's name is "Little Mountain Trail," there's less than 200 feet of elevation gain, so it's nothing super crazy.
Of course, nothing beats sinking your toes in the sand and catching a sunset over the lake at one of the best state parks in Mississippi.
