Of all the gardens in the Magnolia State, you won’t find another like Literacy Garden. As magical as it sounds, it's full of literary-inspired sculptures, an edible garden, and other whimsical features. Take a look:
Located in Jackson, Mississippi, Children’s Museum is a state-of-the-art facility that “takes fun seriously.”
Aiming to provide an unparalleled experience, the museum boasts an array of exhibits, activities, and programs.
But the museum’s amazing features aren’t limited to its interior. In fact, right outside the museum sits one of its best - and most whimsical features – the Literacy Garden.
It was added to the museum in 2014, and has been a hit right from the start. And it’s easy to see why!
As magical as it sounds, the Literacy Garden is based on The Enchanted Land of Story, a poem by Sherry Norfolk.
With whimsical, literary-inspired sculptures, a visit to the Literacy Garden is like stepping straight into Norfolk’s poem.
The outdoor learning and play space has more than whimsy to offer, though.
It’s been carefully crafted to encourage language and reading skills development among children 0-8 years old.
As you make your way around the Literacy Garden, you’ll find lots of interesting features, including a variety of native plants as well as an edible garden.
The Literacy Garden is clearly designed for younger visitors; however, that doesn’t mean adults won’t enjoy a visit (and maybe learn a few things), too.
For more information, call the museum at (601) 981-5469. You can also visit the Mississippi Children’s Museum website or Facebook page.
