Five Different Planets Will Align In The Mississippi Night Sky During An Incredibly Rare Display

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It’s a plane. It's…a planet parade? Yes, that’s right a planet parade, which is the name given to the rare celestial event occurring for just a few days at the end of March 2023. It’s truly a sight to be seen. Stargazing in Mississippi is always an amazing treat - the skies above the Magnolia State are so magnificent. Staring up into the Mississippi night sky is a wonderful past time that will be even more magical than usual from March 25 to March 30, 2023. This special treat will only be visible for a brief period of time, so read on to learn how to catch a glimpse of this planetary alignment.

The Mississippi night sky is one of our state's natural wonders, and it's always a lovely sight. This month it will be especially stunning, because there will be five planets visible in Mississippi!

This relatively rare planetary alignment will only occur for about a half hour each day after sunset from March 25 to March 30. During the spectacular celestial show, the brightest planets in the solar system will all line up in a row with the setting sun.

The best part is that the entire display should be visible with the naked eye. Even if you don't have expensive equipment like telescopes or binoculars, you should be able to look up towards the setting sun and see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus, all in a row.

Jupiter may sink a little too low to be seen and Uranus is fairly small, so it might be hard to catch. Venus will be the brightest and easiest to spot - it's actually the third brightest object in the sky, after the sun and moon.

This event doesn't occur too often, so make sure to keep an eye on the predicted sunset times and head outside as the sun begins to set. Make sure to wait to look up towards the western horizon after the sun has already disappeared so that you don't damage your eyes.

In order to guarantee the best view of this planetary alignment in Mississippi, you'll want to head to a rural area, away from city lights. Make sure that there aren't any buildings in the way of you and the western horizon.
