If you're part of the third group, Deer Lake in Itasca County is for you. This sapphire lake is great for swimming and fishing, but it is best viewed from afar. Why? Because its color is truly gorgeous.

Deer Lake is located in Itasca County, about 200 miles north of the Twin Cities.
The lake takes up over 4,000 acres and has 22 miles of shoreline. This makes it one of Minnesota's largest lakes.
It is sometimes called the lake of changing colors. In the summer, its mineral content gives it a brilliant blue color.
It is also known for having crystal-clear water. If you keep still, you can see the bottom. Visibility goes up to 11 feet!
Because of its beauty and size, Deer Lake is a popular spot for people who want to get away from it all.
Swimming, fishing, and boating are popular activities. But we wouldn't blame you if you just wanted to stare at the clear blue water.
People aren't the only ones attracted to the turquoise waters of Deer Lake. If you're lucky, you'll spot deer, eagles, or maybe even a loon or two!
