When fall rolls around and our minds start turning toward school, sweaters, and maybe even the coming holidays, many folks start thinking about doing all they can to enjoy the fall shoulder season. Fall foliage drives, visits to apple orchards and corn mazes, and autumn road trips to state parks may all find their ways into our plans. But for many of us - particularly those with a love for jack-o-lanterns and other gourd-oriented decor and, of course, kids - fall doesn’t really start until we’ve visited one of the many fantastic pumpkin patches in Minnesota. And I figure, if you’re going to go, go big and visit Barten Pumpkins. It’s not an agritainment amusement park, but there’s plenty to see and do, and it’s one of the largest pumpkin patches in the Land of 10,000 Lakes - so if you don’t find your pumpkin here, you may not find it anywhere!
Barten Pumpkins is located near New Prague, in southern Minnesota.
A true family operation, the Barten family has been in the pumpkin business for many years, after switching from sweet corn production.
The farm sells, quite literally, thousands of pumpkins every year - which makes it one of the largest pumpkin patches in Minnesota.
When you visit, you’ll see what I mean: rows and rows of pumpkins stretching to the horizon.
And you’re not limited to just orange - or just pumpkins.
The farm sells pumpkins and gourds in many sizes, shapes, colors, and textures.
There is no charge for admission or to use a wagon.
The farm accepts cash, check, or Venmo for purchases.
Depending on the weekend you visit, you may find entertainment like live music or a pumpkin cannon.
The folks at the farm can even help with custom fall displays!
When you’re looking for this year’s pumpkins, you can’t do much better than Barten Pumpkins. Visit Barten Pumpkins on the web to learn more about the farm and stopping out to pick up this year’s pumpkins. For photos and updates, check out the farm’s Facebook page. While you’re in the area be sure to do yourself a favor and explore the charming town of New Prague. With a rich Czech heritage, it’s one of the most “European” feeling communities in the State. And don’t pass up a treat from Lau’s Czech bakery!
