Most people who travel to northern Minnesota do so to sleep in a tent, hike through the woods, and cook over a campfire. Expecting to spend the entire time away from civilization, they overlook the possibility of eating at a restaurant. But that would be a mistake. Why? Because there's at least one great restaurant located deep within the Superior National Forest. The Trestle Inn Restaurant & Saloon is a bit out of the way, but it is definitely worth the stop.
The Trestle Inn has an interesting history. It was constructed in the 1980s from an abandoned 1920s railroad trestle made of Douglas fir.
The restaurant soon became a popular stop for snowmobilers enjoying the untouched snow of northern Minnesota.
But you don't have to be a snowmobiler to access the restaurant.
To visit, you just have to be willing to trek a few miles into the wilderness. But you won't regret it - the surroundings are truly beautiful.
The outside seating is a great option for a warm day.
Or you can step inside, where you'll be greeted by a cozy restaurant trimmed with rustic wood beams.
The menu includes plenty of hearty favorites, like wings, burgers, and sandwiches.
Of course, a full bar is available to those who prefer a stronger drink with their dinner. Plenty of events through the year will also add the the lively atmosphere.
Trestle Inn Restaurant & Saloon is located in the Superior National forest at 7 Cramer Road in Finland, Minnesota.
To get there, take Highway 61 north from Duluth to Highway 1. From there, drive six miles to County Road 7 in Finland, Minnesota. Take that road for 20 miles until you get to the Trestle Inn.
