The Land of 10,000 Lakes isn’t exactly known for its soaring summits. Our highest heights don’t compare to the peaks out west, but that doesn’t mean our state is devoid of beautiful vantage points. In fact, it is full of them!
One of our favorites is a spectacular view atop one of Minnesota’s most impressive rock formations. To see it for yourself, all you have to do is visit Great River Bluffs State Park. Here’s what you need to know:
Great River Bluffs State Park is a beautiful, 3,000-acre park in Winona, Minnesota. Full of wildlife, recreation, and beautiful views, it is one of the best parks in the state.
The park is known for the beautiful bluffs that it preserves. Overlooking the Mississippi River, the tallest of these bluffs rises 500 feet over the surrounding landscape.
Several trails help visitors explore the bluffs for themselves. The King’s Bluff Trail leads to the top of one of the park’s most famous bluffs.
The trail crosses 1.5 miles of grass and wildflowers. It’s made of packed dirt, so be sure to bring sturdy shoes.
When you reach the top, a set of wooden platforms will help you take in the view. You’ll be able to see for miles across the Mississippi River and into Wisconsin.
This view from King’s Bluff is truly spectacular. If you are able, it is something that every Minnesotan should see for themselves. Visit in any season – the view is always beautiful!
The view from 500 feet up is well worth the effort to hike the trail. You will not forget the expansive views of this spectacular rock formation!
