You Should Avoid These 7 Most Dangerous Spots In Minnesota Nature

Minnesota's natural beauty comes with risks, and certain areas are particularly dangerous and require caution.

Minnesota is full of unbridled natural beauty, and enjoying that kind of beauty often involves certain elements of risk. From swimming and diving accidents to climbing and hiking accidents, there are some places in Minnesota where it's particularly important to be educated about the dangers surrounding you. While many lakes, rivers, and cliffs across our state can be the cause of an unexpected accident, these seven areas are known as some of the most deadly! Here are some of the most dangerous spots in Minnesota nature - beware!

1. St. Louis River

The St. Louis River has some of the toughest rapids in Minnesota, and while it's gorgeous and fun to explore, it's always better to skip the really rough patches. The water levels also change frequently, making the river less predictable. Wanna chance it anyway? You might be interested in this epic adventure!

2. Lester River

There are a variety of popular swimming holes on the Lester River, however, one in particular, known as The Deeps, is known for its swimming hole and cliff jumping. The Deeps has a history of being dangerous, and it should be explored with caution.

3. Another popular activity in Minnesota has been diving from bridges.

Water levels can be hard to estimate, and many people have been injured or killed because of this dangerous trend.

4. Icy Lakes

As the Minnesota DNR puts it, no ice is 100% safe. It can be hard to be certain which ice is okay to walk and even drive on, and the older the ice, the more likely it is to be a dangerous trap.

5. Devil's Kettle on the Brule River is mostly dangerous because we don't exactly know where the waterfall goes.

A fall into the abyss would likely be fatal. Read more about this natural oddity in this article!

6. Mississippi River Bluffs

Some of the most beautiful, yet most deadly hiking trails in Minnesota are along the Mississippi River Bluffs. Tread carefully and you'll be rewarded with an amazing photo op and a safe return home.

7. Mississippi Caves

Along the Mississippi, particularly in St. Paul, you can find some interesting caves, but many are blocked off, and almost all are unsafe for spontaneous exploration. Many people have become trapped or injured. Read more about one of these caves in this article.

So go out and enjoy Minnesota's beauty, but keep in mind, it's better to be safe than sorry - always practice up-to-date safety precautions. We need you around to hike many more trails!
