This One Jaw Dropping Place In Michigan Will Blow You Away

Turnip Rock on Lake Huron is a stunning rock formation that offers a unique and awe-inspiring destination in Michigan.

When you consider where you might find jaw-dropping places in Michigan your first thoughts may go to spots like Sleeping Bear or Pictured Rocks National lakeshores.

But take a road trip to a lesser traveled Great Lake - Lake Huron - and you will come across the awe-inspiring place known as Turnip Rock.

Turnip Rock is a small rock formation that sits on shallow water on Lake Huron. Have a look.

It's located near the rock known as the Thumbnail - the extreme tip of Pointe Aux Barques, which is a small peninsula in Pointe Aux Barques Township in the Thumb of Michigan.

Turnip Rock came to be as a result of severe undercutting by wave action.

The effect: its top has a much larger cross-section than its base...kinda like a turnip.

While Turnip Rock is one of many popular kayaking destinations in Michigan, it's less saturated than, say, Sleeping Bear or Pictured Rocks National lakeshores - a plus in our eyes.

And what's more, where else are you going to get to witness this out-of-this-world kind of place, which really feels like it could be a setting from sci-fi classics like Planet of the Apes?

So what are you waiting for? Have you Map Quested directions to this magical place yet? And tell us too, where are some of your favorite jaw-dropping destinations in Michigan that you're dying to visit each and every year?
