Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve is located just off West 10 Mile Road in Southfield.
This Metro Detroit gem is overflowing with opportunities to appreciate the fresh air. The preserve is home to 42 acres and some of the most serene surroundings in the state.
Throughout the area, you’ll find everything from peaceful meadows to lush forestland. It’s easy to understand why Michiganders head here for natural relaxation.
One of the preserve’s most fascinating elements is its large boulder "garden," a unique public art installation that features a series of carefully arranged boulders to explore.
Visitors can walk freely among the massive rocks, which were donated to the preserve by a local philanthropist in 2017, and appreciate their otherworldly beauty.
No matter what your age, there’s something imaginative about this simple yet striking installation. You might even want to snap a few photos as you make your way through.
Before you leave the preserve, be sure to lace up your boots and hit the hiking trails or sit alongside Carpenter Lake itself. You’ll feel rejuvenated in no time at all.
When you want to stretch both your muscles and your creative mind, venture to Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve. You’ll be counting down the days until your next visit.
Another incredible place to explore in Michigan is the pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Take a look at why we think so in this video:
