Massachusetts fall foliage season is at its peak and leaf-peeping season is now in full swing! It is the perfect time to get out and enjoy a crisp autumn hike before the reds, yellows, and orange hues turn brown and the trees soon become bare of leaves. We have already told you about prime fall foliage areas like Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge and the colorful town of Stockbridge. Another gorgeous Massachusetts spot that is bursting with vibrant hues is Leominster State Forest.
Leominster State Forest is a beautiful area that spans five towns in Central Massachusetts.
The forest is made up of over 4,000 acres of public land that includes some fantastic hiking trails.
There are numerous trails of various lengths and degrees of difficulty, so you will definitely be able to find a great hike with some magnificent scenery.
If an easy hike is on your list, try out the Elm Street to Rocky Pond trail. On this 3.1-mile rocky trail, you will be able to see some beautiful foliage against an amazingly scenic backdrop.
For those who are up for more of a challenge, the Redemption Rock to Crow Hill via Midstate Trail may be the hike for you. This 3.6-mile popular trail has been classified as a moderate hike that takes about two hours to complete.
Along the way, you will pass waterfalls, brooks, and stone walls. The scenic autumn views from the summit are simply breathtaking.
Leominster State Forest also has wonderful trails for the more experienced hikers. One of these is the Midstate Trail: Route 2 to Mile Hill Road. This challenging 10.5-hike should take you about five hours to walk.
Be prepared for the steep portions of the trail and enjoy the vibrant colors and gorgeous scenic views along the way.
If you have explored any of the trails at Leominster State Forest, please tell us all about your experience. More information about these trails can be found on AllTrails.
