6 Gorgeous Frozen Waterfalls In Massachusetts That Must Be Seen To Be Believed

You may already know that Massachusetts is filled with gorgeous waterfalls that are beautiful summer hiking destinations, but you may not have realized that these cascades are just as gorgeous in the winter. As soon as temperatures drop, many of our state's waterfalls transform into crystalized works of art. Take a look at some of these breathtaking frozen waterfalls in Massachusetts.

1. Trap Falls, Ashby

Trap Falls in the Willard Brook State Forest, Ashby, is perfectly magical in the winter. Hiking around this area feels like stepping into a storybook. Winter in MA is more fun when you’re viewing frozen waterfalls!

2. Bash Bish Falls, Mount Washington

Bash Bish Falls is the tallest waterfall in Massachusetts, and it transforms into a jaw-dropping icy sculpture under the right conditions. The sight of this frozen cascade is truly breathtaking. Not all trails in Bash Bish State Park are open year-round, so check with the park service before you go. Bish Bash Falls is one of our favorite hikes!

3. Holland Glen (Hop Brook), Belchertown

Situated in Holland Glen, this little waterfall drops about 15 feet and is absolutely stunning in the snow and ice. If you're lucky enough to catch it completely frozen, be sure to snap a few pictures. Hiking to this spot will only take you about 15 minutes from the parking area. This is one of our favorite frozen waterfalls in MA.

4. Mill River Cascades, Northampton

The Mill River in Northampton doesn't normally completely freeze over, but the icy rapids along its rocky course can be crusted with glittering ice and snow under the right conditions. The sight is truly gorgeous. One of the top frozen waterfalls in MA!

5. Vine Brook at Wilson Mill, Bedford

This waterfall looks absolutely stunning when it's dressed up in sparkling snow and glittering icicles. Wilson Mill has been around since 1635, so this is also one of the most historic sites in Bedford. This is a great waterfall in Massachusetts.

6. Forbush Mill Dam, Bolton

The crystallized waters of this cascade look like a sheet of diamonds. You can find this waterfall in Bolton's Pond Park Mill Site, which offers several stone paths to explore. With waterfalls like these to see, winter in MA never looked so good!
