Dust off those snow shovels and start warming up your car now because this winter is shaping up to be a brutal one. The 2017/2018 Farmers’ Almanac predictions are in, and they’re forecasting an especially cold and snowy winter for Massachusetts. Read on to learn how exactly this new batch of predictions all impact the Bay State.

The Farmers’ Almanac, a trusted source of weather predictions for over 200 years, is warning that this upcoming winter will be a killer in Massachusetts.

While we may be enjoying balmy weather and beautiful sunshine now, we all know it won’t last. Massachusetts is well acquainted with blizzards, icy roads and freezing winds. All three are in the forecast for winter 2017/2018.

The Farmers’ Almanac states that the Northeast will be hit especially hard this winter with snowier-than-normal conditions as well as freezing temperatures that won't let up for days.

In particular, the Almanac is "red-flagging" the dates of January 20-23, February 4-7 and 16-19, and March 1-3 and 20-23. They’re predicting heavy precipitation along the Atlantic Seaboard for those dates.

The Farmers' Almanac has a recognized knack for predicting big storms months in advance. While weather predictions are always changing, it's probably a good idea to keep the snow shovel handy as we head into the chilly season.

While skiers and snowboarders may be rejoicing, the rest of us might be a bit less thrilled with these predictions. However, if there’s one thing we here in Massachusetts know how to handle it’s a brutal winter. All the more reason to break out the warm sweaters and grab a refill of hot cocoa.
