Did you know that the state of Maryland is home to a show cave? This underrated gem is impressive, especially when you learn that this cave has more formations per square foot than any other cave known to man. Wow! Read on for the fascinating details and consider taking a tour through this underground wonderland.
You'll find Crystal Grottoes Caverns at 19821 Shepherdstown Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Just be on the lookout for this sign...
...and this building, which is actually the entrance to the caverns. Tours cost $20 for adults and $10 for children age 11 and under.
Fun fact: When the caverns officially opened to the public back in 1922, tickets were only 7 cents each!
Tours last for about 35 minutes and during that time, you'll encounter an endless amount of natural formations.
Be sure to bring your camera and a sweatshirt as well. The caverns are 54-degrees year-round, even during summertime!
There's surely no other place like this in Maryland. With abundant stalactites, flowstone, and columns, this natural wonder is like exploring another world.
The surrounding scenery isn't too shabby, either. The nearby creek is serene and makes for a picture-perfect spot for a picnic after your cave adventure.
