Cuddle The Most Adorable Rescued Farm Animals For Free At Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary In Maryland

When most people think of animal rescue, their mind immediately jumps to dogs and cats. After all, that's what most of us come in contact with each day (and we may even own rescued friends of our own). What you may not be aware of is there are a growing number of animal sanctuaries that deal with cows, pigs, and other agricultural livestock. There's even a farm animal rescue in Maryland! Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit animal rescue that houses pigs, horses, turkeys, cows, and more. Best of all, they allow visitors (with appointment), so you are able to come and interact with the residents and learn more about them!

Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is located on a beautiful 400-acre farm in Poolesville. Founded in 1996, their mission is to provide a permanent home for farm animals that have nowhere else to go.

Many of the farm's residents have been previously neglected. Some were even seized from animal cruelty cases.

From gorgeous goats to cute cows, you'll find all kinds of critters here. Some were rescued from cruel lives of industrial agriculture. Others were surrendered to the sanctuary when their medical situations became too much for owners to handle.

Running a sanctuary like this is a communal effort that takes a lot of work! Poplar Spring is always looking for volunteers.

The residents receive lots of love and many adore new people.
