Leave Your Worries Behind When You Take A Day Trip To This Remote Lake In Maryland

When it comes to awe-inspiring landscapes, rugged mountains, hardwood forests, and a treasure trove of rivers and lakes, it doesn't get much better than Western Maryland. And today's feature destination is a case in point: Herrington Lake at Herrington Manor State Park. Not so much a hidden gem but a remote lake nonetheless, this stunning natural wonder might just be the most refreshing place to spend a warm day. Or, if you're up for a brisk adventure, a peaceful and secluded winter escape.

Tucked away in Garrett County, Maryland is one of the region's loveliest state parks: Herrington Manor State Park.

The park is named for Abijah Herrington, who built a manor house on the property in the mid-1800s. The Civilian Conservation Corps created the 53-acre lake by damming the creek.

Though the manor house was eventually demolished, the lake remains at the heart of this beautiful park.

During the warm months, visitors can look forward to an impressive range of activities, including swimming, kayaking, hiking, boating, and biking.

The park's 12 miles of hiking trails are well marked and well maintained, making for an excellent excursion.

Plus, if you're looking to extend your trip, you can rent one of the log cabins on site.

No matter your reason for visiting, you'll quickly discover that this picture-perfect state park really is the perfect place to get away from it all!
