Escape To Witherle Woods For A Beautiful Maine Nature Scene
Witherle Woods Preserve in Castine, Maine offers year-round hiking with beautiful views and diverse woodland.
It would be easy to say that "these days" we love exploring new areas of Maine to soak up the beauty. But the reality is that we want to do this "all days." That's because there's just so much to see and enjoy here. No matter the season, no matter the weather, we crave a good trip outside to clear our heads, find some peace and remember just why we keep on keeping on. If you're of the same mindset, make your way to this beautiful area.
To find Witherle Woods Preserve make your way to Castine, located in Hancock County.
Thankfully, things are significantly quieter than they must have been way back then! Today the preserve offers 185 acres of woodland with plentiful views.
The forest includes red and white spruce, balsam fir, white pine, and lots of other hardwood trees.
The preserver offers peace and quiet by hiding under the trails beneath the trees, but we also love the expansive views of the Penobscot Bay.
Witherle Woods Preserve offers 3.7 miles of hiking trails. Each one offers beauty, but they're all unique in their own way.
From the trailhead, you'll find a map to guide you through the routes. Always be mindful of the weather, but this is one network of trails that's beautiful no matter what the conditions. You just need to be open to the beauty of Maine, which means appreciating foggy air just as you would clear skies.
And if you do happen to get those incredible blue Maine skies, soak 'em up!
We get through the winters for a reason.
Witherle Woods can be visited year-round, just be sure to exercise some extra care when visiting when conditions are cold and icy. You can learn more about the area and check out the hikes you can take by visiting the Maine Coast Heritage Trust website. One of the things we love most about being in Maine is access to natural beauty at every turn. So, of course, we have another great option for you. The gorgeous 1.7-mile hike in Maine's Big Falls Preserve will lead you past a waterfall and river.
