We might write a lot about things to do outside, but we feel that cold weather just as much as you do! That means during the winter it takes some seriously special surroundings to get us up and out the door for an adventure. That’s why we love the trails and parks that offer a little something special. The one we’re talking about today doesn’t have anything all that unique when compared to other local parks, but it sure is beautiful. And when the conditions are right it feels like traipsing through another world!
If you're looking for a year-round spot to get some peace, quiet and lots of incredible views, look no further than Reid State Park in Georgetown.
The 770-acre park offers a mix of beach and rocky headlands to explore.
In the summer it's a great place to catch some rays and watch the water, but it's also a special place when it's cold.
The tide still comes in and out and that quintessential Maine sea spray is just as salty as ever!
The park also offers a fair few spots that aren't directly on the ocean, which makes for nice secluded quiet time. Especially in the off-season.
Any visitor to Maine beaches in the summer will tell you that a wide-open sandy section of beach isn't especially common. But Reid State Park offers two! Both Mile and Half Mile Beach offers tons of space to explore.
And there's lots to see here. There are moments when you might just feel like you're in a storybook waiting for a pirate ship to appear on the horizon!
And, even if you never do spot that pirate ship, you'll love the feeling of being out in the fresh air.
Plan your trip for the end of the day and you'll be able to take in one of the most magnificent sunsets in the area.
Reid State Park is open year-round from dawn to dusk, but during the off-season, the park won’t be staffed and comfort stations are typically closed. You can learn more about visiting the Maine Tourism website. If you have questions you can try giving them a call on 207-371-2303.
