The Magnificent Natural Wonder In Maine That’s Located Right Next To The Parking Lot

The Pine Tree State is utterly packed with gorgeous natural wonders, but many require a hike to get to them. For various accessibility and other reasons, we often wish to see natural wonders in Maine that are quite close to where we park. Thankfully, there are several such places and Kettle Cove State Park in Maine is a splendid one.

Kettle Cove State Park is about 20 minutes south of Portland in a gorgeous area of cliffs and beaches that will take your breath away.

This view is only steps from the parking lot. There are magnificent cliffs here that gradually descend in height to become tide pools like these. What a view!

There’s an intriguing mustard-colored lichen that adorns the rocks and the cliffs here and adds a touch of surreal beauty to the place. They almost look like something Bob Ross might paint.

The rocks in the cove have fascinating striations and layers that almost make them look like petrified wood or abstract sculptures. Plus, there’s abundant wildlife here on the land and in the ocean.

A boardwalk ramp will lead you straight down to the beach that rests between the cliffs so you won’t have to step over rocks to get to it. Sitting and watching the waves is so relaxing.

If you do choose to take a serene stroll around the area, you’ll get stunning views of the cove and enjoy the beauty of the wildflowers that surround it. This is such an idyllic place.

Be sure to stick around for the spectacular sunset. It’s such a lovely place for a beach day, a light stroll, and for taking in some achingly beautiful natural scenery. It will most certainly be a day well spent.
