The Little Niagara Falls in Maine can be found along Nesowadehunk Stream in Baxter State Park.

Little Niagara Falls is definitely "little" compared to its "big" sister, standing only 12 feet. Spanning between upstate New York and Ontario, Canada, the actual Niagara Falls' tallest cascade is the Canadian Horseshoe Falls at a whopping 2,200 feet.

To get to Little Niagara Falls you must hike via the Appalachian Trail.

This portion of the Appalachian Trail not only brings you to Little Niagara Falls but also to Maine's Big Niagara Falls. It's not as big as the world-famous falls in New York, but it's still worth the trip.

The trailhead is located in Millinocket, Maine.

Millinocket is a central-northern town in Penobscot County. From the trailhead, the hike is 2.3 miles along an out-and-back trail.

The trail is considered easy and takes about 50 minutes to complete.

Of course, we expect you to spend some extra time at the falls, taking in the gorgeous scenery.

Many families hike in to spend the day at Little Niagara Falls.

Bringing a picnic lunch to eat on the rocks while watching the water flow is a great way to spend a sunny day surrounded by nature.

The best times to visit Little Niagara Falls and hike this trail is between the months of June and October.

However, be sure to leave your dogs at home, as there are no pooches allowed on this trail.
