Enjoy A Secluded Stroll On A Little-Known Path Along This Iconic Maine River

When you want to head outside, there is no better place than Maine. From the coast to the cities, you can find unforgettable places to explore. One lesser-known destination is Jordan Homestead Preserve in Ellsworth. This 31-acre property is a place where you can enjoy it all — forests, a river, and seclusion. Plus, you will find a loop trail here that is lightly trafficked and absolutely beautiful. You don’t want to miss it.

Jordan Homestead Preserve was owned by the Jordan family for more than 200 years. In 2017, it was acquired by the Frenchman Bay Conservancy, and today, it is where visitors can come for a short and easy walk through nature.

Jordan Homestead Preserve features a short lollipop trail that is only one mile long. The trail is flat, easy, and absolutely beautiful.

You’ll want to bring your entire family along for this hike. You’ll begin in a wooded area and pass many historic sites, including an old cemetery and a heritage garden.

You’ll also trek across a wooden bridge, stone staircases, and other features that will make you feel like you are in a fairy tale world.

As you make the loop, you will also spend plenty of time walking along the Union River.

Take your time as you pass the river and enjoy the views.

Look out for various wildlife who may also be enjoying this beautiful area — it’s truly gorgeous here.

While any time of the year is wonderful to visit Jordan Homestead Preserve, we especially love the summer and fall months. Keep in mind that if exploring during the winter or spring, the trail can be snowy and muddy — you’ll want to come prepared with the proper gear for the current weather and trail conditions.

Jordan Homestead Preserve is a lovely destination for a stroll in nature. Whether you want a day outside with your family or just some time alone, this trail has a little something for everyone. It’s an escape along the Union River you’ll be grateful you discovered.
