Maine offers some of the best, untouched nature in the country. It could be the result of having so much remote land. Or, it could just be that we see less people visiting and potentially adding to the burden. Whatever it is, we're thankful to have access to so much beauty in every corner of the state. This state park is wonderful, but it also features one of the cleanest lakes in the state!
Make your way to the midcoast and you'll find one of Maine's most lovely, but underrated state parks.
You can find Lake St. George State Park about 16 miles west of Belfast and 25 miles east of Augusta. Not surprisingly, it's right on the banks of wonderful Lake St. George.
The lake is comprised of 1,017 acres and includes lots of small, undeveloped islands.
If you're a camper, you'll love that a fair few of the camping spots here are located right on the water. This makes for some seriously lovely evenings and mornings!
Especially when you consider that Maine's famous loons can be heard all across the lake.
There's tons to do in the park, including day-use picnic areas and some nice little trails to explore.
But what we love most is the clear, clean nature of the lake. Just look at this!
In many spots, you'll be able to see to the bottom of the lake.
And on special sunny days, the area has a tropical feel.
This is one of our favorite day trips. Spend a day, spend the weekend or make it your annual camping trip. Whatever you do, make sure you visit!
