When most people consider beachfront dining, they think about the ocean. Waves crashing, music blaring and perhaps some adult beverages. But, beachfront dining doesn't have to scream spring break. At this adorable cafe on Sabbathday Lake, things are pretty casual. It's quiet, calm and just about as Maine as it gets. And, it's not on the ocean. Here in Maine you can enjoy cool water at some of the best lakes in the country. And the food here is some of the best you'll find!
Bresca and the Honey Bee is located at the shores of Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester. You can't miss it - just look for the cutest shack you ever did see.
The lake has been a swimming hole since the 1920s. The name of the lake dates back to when the Shakers settled the area in approximately 1782.
And the shack housing Bresca and the Honey Bee is the oldest structure on the lake.
The lake doesn't have blaring music or souvenir shops, but it's got some of the best Maine vibes you can find.
And from Labor Day to Memorial Day, you'll find is abuzz (see what we did there?) with snacks and food to give you every excuse in the world to stay here all day.
The pastries are incredible - and there's always a huge selection.
And they've totally transcended the idea of "beach snacks" - this stuff truly tastes gourmet.
How about some cardamom buns?
There's a full lunch menu including things like hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers sourced locally. And each comes in a variety of ways with names like "The Mainer Dog" with maple glazed pork belly.
And no trip to any beach is complete without ice cream, so be sure to leave some room.
Bresca and the Honey Bee is located at 106 Outlet Rd., New Gloucester, Maine. They're open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but lunch was just served on weekends last summer. Perhaps we'll get lucky and see more lunch this year! You can get ice cream every day of the week when they're open. They're open weather permitting so be sure to check ahead of time if the weather is rainy. You can learn more about them on their website or check them out on Facebook. If you have questions, give them a call on 207-926-3388.
