You don’t have to travel far to see some incredible wildlife in Louisiana. Whether you venture out to the bayous and swamps or one of these incredible attractions, you’re sure to have a memorable experience getting up close and personal with exotic wildlife.
1. Gators & Friends
Located just outside of Shreveport, Gators & Friends is an exotic animal petting zoo and adventure park that the entire family will love. The little ones will enjoy the pony rides and opportunity to pet and feed exotic animals from all over the world, while older kids and adults will have the thrill of a lifetime at the go-karts and the epic zip-line that’ll take you soaring over the park. 2. Global Wildlife Center
Established in 1991, Global Wildlife is home to more than 4,000 exotic and endangered animals. It’s the largest free-roaming wildlife preserve of its kind in the country, and during your covered wagon safari adventure, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with captivating creatures like zebras, bison, giraffes, and many more.Address: 26389 Hwy. 40, Folsom, LA 70437

2. Lake Martin
Nestled in the heart of Cajun Country, Lake Martin is a wildlife viewer’s paradise. It’s not uncommon to see typical swamp creatures like alligators and turtles in this beautiful lake, but it’s also a large bird rookery that hundreds of wading birds call home. 4. Bird City
Bird City is located on Avery Island and is an important sanctuary for a variety of birds, including herons and egrets. Depending on the time of year, you can expect hundreds of migratory birds to call the sanctuary home. Address: Hwy. 329, Avery Island, LA 70513
5. The Gator Chateau
Perhaps the best hidden gem on this list, the Gator Chateau is lovely for a little family outing. Conveniently located off I-10 in Jennings, you’ll have the opportunity to hold baby gators, making for the perfect photo opportunity. 6. Wildlife Country Safari Park
Wildlife Country Safari Park is home to more than 30 species of animals, ranging from bunnies to water buffalo, and you’ll be able to have a hands-on experience with many of them. The Safari Park offers guided tours, but you can also drive through the park in your own vehicle to see the animals roaming around.
