Are you looking for an incredible day trip near New Orleans? Consider a visit to Jungle Gardens. One of the most unique parks in Louisiana, it is about 2 hours away from the city--but will make you feel like you are in another world.
Jungle Gardens is found on Avery Island, which is where Tabasco Sauce is made.
There are very fun tours that you can take of the Tabasco Factory--but when you pay a visit, definitely visit Jungle Gardens.
These gardens were created by a member of the McIlhenny family, Edward Avery McIlhenny.
He was known for his love of birds and exotic plants, and for the breathtaking Chinese gardens, which features a Chinese Buddha sculpture from 1100 AD. It is found in the small temple pictured here.
Edward also created a bird sanctuary here, called Bird City. It provides a place for snowy egrets and other migratory birds to stop during their flights.
It's a truly amazing sight to explore all of these awesome birds.
The 170 acre gardens are also home to gorgeous live oak trees that are in their prime--covered in resurrection ferns and dripping with Spanish moss.
There is something so majestic about trees like this.

There are many particularly beautiful species including papyrus sedges, bamboo, and wisteria. The azaleas are simply gorgeous.
