Looking for a fairly easy river trail in Louisiana that won't leave you exhausted? Look no further -- the Stoner Trail is a great option. This trail follows along the beautiful Red River. This is a great easy hiking trail in Louisiana that is perfect for beginners. You aren't too far from civilization, so there's no fear of getting lost in the woods.
The entire trail is about 1.7 miles, but parts of it tend to get washed out after heavy rains. If you want to stick to an easier and better-maintained area, just start at the boat launch and turn around when you hit the overpass.
The Highway 3032 overpass is around half a mile in. It's a quick out-and-back hike that won't take too long and is a good option for kids or dogs.
This trail follows along the Red River of the South. This one is a major waterway that flows through Louisiana and Texas.
It's actually one of several rivers in the country with the name "Red River." The river's name comes from its distinct reddish tint. The river is dyed reddish from the famous red clay of the south.
You'll definitely want to wear good hiking shoes (that can get wet!) and long pants to avoid thorns and brambles.
This trail features just enough obstacles and branches to be a slight challenge, but not too much.
Sticking to the portion before the overpass will provide you with the safest and most beginner-friendly option.
Louisiana has such a variety of plant life, and you are likely to see a lot of wildlife here as well.
Since it's by the river, you may even catch sight of a great blue heron or egret.
Make sure to wear insect repellent and keep an eye where you step, as marshy areas like this tend to have a lot of snakes!
