You’ll find Lake Bruin State Park in St. Joseph, Louisiana.

The 53-acre park may be tiny, but it’s nestled along the scenic Lake Bruin, which has a surface area of 3,000 acres.

The park was originally established in 1928 as a fish hatchery, so bring your tackle box.

There are three piers to fish from, as well as rental boats available if you’d like to take to the water to find your new favorite honey hole. Largemouth bass are popular year-round, but if you’re fishing along the pier, you stand a good chance of snagging a white perch or bluegill.

Water sports are a popular pastime on the lake, too.

You'll often see people tubing and waterskiing in the open water.

Primitive campsites and RV hook-ups are both available, but if you really want to treat yourself, go ahead and rent one of the cabins. Most cabins can sleep up to four people, but the deluxe cabins can sleep up to eight. You'll have plenty of space to sprawl out in between adventures.

Of course, nothing beats a waterfront sunset, and Lake Bruin State Park specializes in this spectacle.
