There's nothing more relaxing than taking a casual stroll through some beautiful gardens. When the urge strikes to surround yourself with beautiful pops of color and lush greenery, you have to check out the Rip Van Winkle Gardens in Louisiana. These picture-perfect gardens are one of the best-kept secrets in the state and worth a visit.
You’ll find the Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island in New Iberia, Louisiana.
This little slice of paradise features 15 acres of semi-tropical gardens nestled around the historic Joseph Jefferson Mansion.
As you stroll around, you’ll be surrounded by picture-perfect gardens and shaded by canopies of 350-year-old oak trees.
You’ll also come across several peacocks.
These majestic birds just add to the beauty of the gardens.
You’ll have some stunning views of Lake Peigneur.
The Jefferson Cafe is on the grounds and an ideal spot to grab a bite to eat while taking in the delightful views.
You’ll also want to take a tour of the Joseph Jefferson Mansion while you’re there.
You'll learn all about the history of the home and the 1980 drilling disaster that swallowed up the three-story home (among many other things). You can still see the chimney in the lake!
Tours are offered daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include a tour of the mansion as well as all-day access to the gardens.
Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, and $8 for children.
For more information, be sure to check out the gardens' website and give it a follow on Facebook.
