Restoration Park is a beautiful, 70-acre recreational park in West Monroe that’s home to a quick and easy nature trail that you’re going to love. Once the center for a sand and gravel mining operation, the park has quite an interesting history. The area was mined for about 50 years before becoming abandoned in the 1970s when it then fell victim to illegal dumping. In 1989, the city of West Monroe purchased the land and began the long process of turning rags to riches, developing the area to become a detention basin for floodwaters.
It took several years, but after a lot of hard work, Restoration Park opened to the public in 2003.
And now you know why they named it Restoration Park!
Restoring the area back to its natural glory hasn’t been easy, and it’s an ongoing process, but over the years, the park has blossomed into quite the natural oasis.
The 1.5-mile nature trail will take you all around the perimeter of the park.
You’ll be surrounded by towering pine trees that’ll shade much of your journey.
The gravel trail turns to a boardwalk trail that will give you some truly stunning waterfront views.
You could easily sit back and lose yourself in the beauty before you.
If you're lucky, you might even spot some wildlife!
If you can time your visit during sunset, you're in for a real treat.
There's just something about watching a beautiful sunset over the water that just makes you fall in love with Louisiana all over again.
Restoration park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Have you ever visited Restoration Park? Let us know in the comments.
