Just because it's winter doesn't mean you should stay cooped up inside all day. In fact, one of the perks of living in Louisiana is that we don't experience the harsh winters our northern friends do, so we can play outdoors practically year-round. For a relaxing getaway that will make you feel like you've been transported to a tropical island, a visit to Grand Isle State Park is in order. Sinking your toes into the sand while gazing out at the serene Gulf of Mexico sounds like paradise, right? Let's take a closer look.
Grand Isle State Park might just be the most underrated state parks in Louisiana.
But it’s also one of the most beautiful.
Located directly on the Gulf of Mexico, this 160-acre state park is a nature lover’s paradise.
If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Grand Isle State Park is an ideal destination.
Grand Isle State Park truly features something for everyone.
Visitors to the park can enjoy beaches, fishing opportunities, wildlife viewing, and nature trails.
While there are no cabins available to rent, there are a few options when it comes to lodging.
If you’ve got a camper or an RV, you can rent one of their 49 premium campsites.
But for a more epic camping experience, bring a tent.
You can camp right on the beach at the state park! There are 14 beach tent campsites that rent for a mere $18 per night and offer the opportunity to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore. Stargazers will especially love camping on the beach since you’ll be far away from those pesky city lights, you’ll be able to see all the beautiful stars in the sky (weather permitting, of course).
Imagine waking up to views like this.
You may never want to leave!
One of the biggest attractions to the park is the 100-foot fishing pier.
Bring your rod and reel and catch yourself some dinner, or just gaze out into the Gulf. It’s not uncommon to see dolphins jumping out of the water, so keep your eyes peeled!
And be sure to climb to the top of the observation tower.
You'll have a bird's eye view of the park and endless water views.
While dolphins and birds appeal to wildlife enthusiasts, they aren’t the only animals you’ll have the opportunity to see.
Crabs, jellyfish, and even stingrays are often spotted in the area.
No matter what time of year you visit, Grand Isle State Park never disappoints.
It'll quickly become your new favorite getaway destination.
