Looking to get away from the city for a bit and surround yourself with a little less concrete and a little more greenery? Well, we've got just the spot and it's just a quick trip across the Causeway. Gas up the car and grab some cash for the ride back, because we're heading over to St. Tammany Parish to check out the Northlake Nature Center.
Often overshadowed by its neighbor, Fontainebleau State Park, the Northlake Nature Center is a hidden gem for anyone looking to get lost in nature for an afternoon.
The 400-acre nature center is filled with some truly sensational views.
There are over eight miles of trails that will lead you through the preserve.
All of the trails are under two miles long, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
During your visit, you'll be able to see three different ecosystems at work: a hardwood forest, pine-hardwood forest, and pond-swamp.
The ponds are a result of beaver dams, which you'll be able to see from the boardwalk trails.
With plenty of shade and enchanting gazebos like this, you may never want to leave!
Don't worry, you can always come back! The nature center is open daily from dawn until dusk.
For more information, be sure to check out their website and give them a follow on Facebook so you never miss out on the latest news and events. And while you're in the area, you may want to pop over to Fontainebleau State Park, a beautiful state park nestled along Lake Pontchartrain with even more trails to explore!
