Before Word Gets Out, Visit One Of Louisiana’s Newest Urban Parks

If you live around the Lafayette area, then you’ve heard about Moncus Park. One of the newer parks in Louisiana, this non-profit park is always up to something new. It's one of my favorite urban parks in the Pelican State, and I think you'll absolutely love spending an afternoon here. Let’s check it out:

Welcome to Moncus Park, a 100-acre green space in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The space was owned by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 1920 until about 2005, and used it for agricultural research and also kept cows and horses here. This eventually gave the area the nickname “the Horse Farm.”

When the University announced plans to allow for commercial development on the farm, a “save the horse farm” campaign was launched in the hopes of preserving the space and turning it into a community park, rather than commercial buildings. Seven years later, it worked! The Lafayette Central Park, Inc. was formed in 2013 to build the park, and as they say, the rest is history!

During the warmer months, the 5,100-square-foot water feature is always a hit with kids.

Your kids will love the entire playground, actually.

The inclusive playground includes separate areas for younger and older kids, plus a massive treehouse! The treehouse is made of reclaimed red cypress and also has an ADA-accessible ramp, so kids of all abilities can enjoy it.

And there’s always something to look forward to here at Moncus Park...

...Like the Farmers Market which takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m.

Check out a list of vendors and some out!

There are plenty of walking paths to enjoy, with several benches peppered along the way to sit and admire the view.

Or you may be inspired to just pill up some grass and watch the sunset!

Moncus Park is always adding new features to this park, and the newest attraction will be a separate dog park for big dogs!

There is already a small dog park, and as of September 2023, they've broken ground on designing a separate space for the big dogs!

These pups can't wait!

It's easy to see why this is one of the best parks in Louisiana, but I'll let you be the judge! Visit the Moncus Park website for more information, and be sure to follow Moncus Park on Facebook so you never miss out on any upcoming events or announcements.

If you're planning a road trip to visit this park, be sure to pack some epic snacks for the ride!
