If you’re looking to immerse yourself in some of the most beautiful natural scenery Louisiana can offer, a visit to Barataria Preserve is an absolute must.

Located in Marrero, Barataria Preserve is a natural oasis of 26,000 acres of beautiful bayous, swamps, marshes, and forests.

There are multiple boardwalk and gravel trails that will lead you through this stunning scenery.

The trails give you a glimpse into a part of Louisiana’s wild wetlands that you wouldn’t have access to otherwise.

All of the trails are under 2 miles, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.

Along your walk, you’ll encounter several interpretive signs that will inform you of what’s around you and its importance to these special ecosystems.

And of course, you’ll have the opportunity to see countless wildlife. The preserve is home to alligators, snakes, turtles, wild hogs, more than 200 species of birds, and countless other swamp critters.

You never know when you might see while walking around.

The canopies of cypress and pine trees offer some welcome shade during your visit.

It's one of those places that truly remind you of how beautiful Louisiana really is.

The trails are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
